I get

Economic Left/Right: 8.62
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -4.23

which puts me in the same boat as Milton Friedman and many of the "Austrian" school when it comes to economics (Yay!), but still leaves me with a big problem as to who to vote for.

Wow, looks like we strongly disagree on some principles of sociology and societal/personal economics!

What's the Austrian school? I've never studied economics.

My basic life-philosophy comes down to live the life you want [because you only get the one] and I'll live mine - but just as I don't expect you to fund any aspect of my lifestyle, don't expect me to fund yours either.

I'm libertarian in that I believe people should take responsibility for themselves and their actions - you have an inalienable right to screw up your life and die penniless in the gutter, just as you have an equal right to make a spectacular success of your life and die at 90 as a billionaire.

The "Austrian" school of economics is basically a capitalist free-market on a global scale, with minimal governmental intervention. As you may gather, I'm not likely to be found rioting on the streets in anti-globalisation protests. I'm anarcho-capitalist, rather than anarcho-communist or anarcho-syndicalist.

A rather-extreme [some say apocalyptic, though he does 'put it on' a bit, the better to offend the social-liberals] view of the nadir of anarcho-capitalism is the sort of thing discussed by Ian Angell of the LSE. See this or maybe this for some samples of his writing. He also has a damned good book entitled The new Barbarian Manifesto which might interest (or appall) you.

Economic Left/Right: -1.38
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -1.54

I think they ought to indicate variances too, though. That test makes me seem relatively middle-of-the-road, whereas in reality I'm a mixture of strong opinions in wildly varying directions!

Nonetheless, a very good test that I'd not seen before.

Economic Left/Right: -8.00
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -4.87

Puts me close enough to Nelson Mandella, though at the same time I think I'd have to go a bit further south-west on the scale to be considered in the 'typical student zone' I guess

I don't normally do these things but...

Economic Left/Right: -8.38
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -8.92

Re: I don't normally do these things but...

Rarr! I don't normally do these things either but this one seemed worthwhile.

And... under -8 on both counts, very well done :-)

I was three to the left and three towards librealisum or to put it as they did -3 -3 which is about where I normaly am.

I took this awhile ago; it was Left Libertarian. :)
