I'm reading The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels, and I have one of her other books (next) on Adam & Eve. Interesting reading, to say the least!

I've been wondering recently whether you've considered continuing your higher education as a theology major?

I'd love to study theology, but I am very much afraid 99% of it would be Christian history and major religious figures of the past (same as what philosophy is when you study it academically!), and I wouldn't really gain that much. But, however, it would still be amazing to be able to dedicate some years to pure study of such things rather than fitting it in between other stuff. (I mean... imagine what my Bane Of Monotheism would be if I was doing that!! Wow!)

Elaine Pagels is good from what I know, I'll probably read that book at some point!

I almost took the World Religions course at the college, but I checked out the text in the bookstore. It really did concentrate on the big three, with some mention of eastern religions but rarely a word of anything else (pagan religions). I changed my mind after that. I prefer to learn about this stuff on my own. I usually find better resources and then I'm not limited to one 'professor.' ;)

Sounds like you prefer to concentrate on the here and now, with some reference to history. :)

Pagels' book is very good so far; I'll keep you posted!

about the foundation of fundamentalism

there is a record, where the believers makes their statements. all they said is "that it is how it was written".
this data fetich comes from latin burocracy. the datum is it self the representation of some fact or object itself, moreover uneeded prove the data acurancy with it propouses, objects or events simbolized in the document.
in a perspective, that also is iconolatry. words are symbols, images, icons, fac-similes of the reality, meanings that we gave to what we feel, thought or presume to be real.
the fundamentalist doesn't want know or feel the reality, carnal or spiritual one. he/she wants put the mords as it is, in it literaly means, because the symbol of it is the real data of what God and his will are. uneeding to search even this word is original, autentic or accurate with the fact in itself.

I think fundamentalists are nothing but a bunch of murderering filth looking for a cause to justify thier slime and I don't just mean the muslim jackasses bacvkward rubbish Let us not forget the Christians in the past and in the present, (the racist scum in the USA and I mean all the evanglist crap and even the Monolist trash as well, you go to a church of a God and you still go to your own neighbourhood and hate the thes in your own land because they have a different colour? or they are female ? scum)

Look at the examples of their prophets and then look at them (although can't say the same for their Gods

i'm really glad to see that you have managed to take something you have seen sometime in your life and generalize it to the entire population. i understand if you want to say muslims that kill in the name of their god is ridiculous, i agree. but where do Christians come in? is it that they aren't perfect but attempt to live to a higher standard?

I really pity you all. How can you really comment on things you don't know anything about. God loves you despite your despising and the churches poor way in coomunicating his message in sucha positive way as Christ does.
