I find this very interesting
|
I was born into a devoutly Episcopal family who is very active in the church. (A funny aside: They about shit when the clergy told them I couln't be confirmed because of my stance on abortion.) I had my awakening at about 15 years old. I would call myself an athiest, however, after having read your website http://www.dpjs.co.uk I am forced to reevaluate my stance on the subject.
I am in my late 20's, finishing a PhD. in biochemical engineering. The main reason for my career choice is to better understand the SCIENCE of life (and I am a whore for money). The more I research and learn the more it becomes apparent to me that that we are simply an anomoly in the millions of iterations of earth in the universe. Our planet is a lump of carbon which formed an atmosphere and the right combination of elements ran together to form the primortial ooze. The ooze was probably a series of amino acids (Combinations of amino acids form our DNA) that came together to form some sort of unicellular microbial life. There is interesting work being done with mitochondrial DNA dating. We are able to trace evolutionary paths by comparing animal DNA with artifacts found in the fossil record. This has a lot of promise for some concrete answers in the near future.
If you study religion through history there are several common threads. I think that humans are tormented by the unknown. Our brains capacity for higher thinking and the average persons (dumb people are sheep) failure to understand the most linear logic causes them to subscribe to nonsensical drivel. In an effort to seek security in our own minds we are conned into believing abject stupidity so we can sleep better at night. The church serves as nothing more than a business venture that breeds its congregation, endoctrinates them from birth and happily takes their money. There is a reason that the catholic church is worth billions. Admittedly, its a brilliant scheme. Breed them, brain wash em, have them give you their income and scare the hell out of them with brimstone and fire to keep them coming back. Sounds like cultish behavior to me.
I am the product of a Catholic school... go figure. I am amazed by the myriad of crap that the church says. The church doctrine is maleable to politics of the era. One of my favorite examples is their take on sex. Premarital sex was ok until feudal times. Damn those pesky STD's. The church was concerned about its rapidly dying cash cows, so no more sex! Interesting eh?
The church is just a low cost shrink. The church is the perfect model to draw in sheep. Give it some thought. No matter who you are, no matter how bad, how odd, how socially inept, you are welcomed as a part of the group, given redemption and provided with answers for the problems in your life and told that god has a plan for you that will justify your existance. It's a support group. As misguided as it is, it is hard to deny that some of its more charitable works provide a service to the community. It isnt all together bad. I am not sure how much time per capita satanists donate to charity but i would be willing to bet that the christians spend more of their weekends in soup kitchens.
I find your information valuable and I would love to pick the site creators brain for a while. I am not fond of the idea of publishing my email in this forum, however, if there is a way that i may contact him personally I would ask that you make it available. I will check back soon...
