Laptop...

When I tried to boot the laptop yesterday, it just whirred a bit and sat there... blank. It had been left on batteries all afternoon because my roommate unplugged it to use the plug (he had no other choice), so I left it to charge and kept trying... but nothing.

This morning, I noticed that the battery meter wasn't reading properly... I removed the batter, and the laptop works. So I'm back online...

I was completely depressed last night because of it! But am happy again this morning :-)

Going to work... 8am -> 8pm every day... including weekends. I *live* for the two hours I get online every evening!

I saw that you added me as a friend - do I know you? Just wondering...

Er I don't know why I've added you! We don't seem to have any mutual friends so I not sure that we know each other IRL... erm, your journal looks quite intellectually based so I think we might have had some academic contact, maybe?

Thanks for asking me, a nice bit of intrigue!

Hmmm. I graduated from the University of Alabama (where I'm from) and now live in Germany. Ring any bells for you?

I let the Epictetus excerpts stay on public domain, because, well, there's no reason to censor it and maybe someone out there will get something out of it as I have...

I'm back from Afghanistan (for good), had a great time. I am in Germany, Nordrhein-Westfalen, near West of Monchengladbach near the border with Holland. Erm, ok mystery person, bye!

Oh my goodness, how bizarre! I live in Mönchengladbach! This is getting a little weird. How much longer will you be there? Are you a Brit? American?

Well I've been here for one and a half years, and I will be here for another one and a half. Ish. I'm actually a 45 min drive from 'munch'. I'm British. OK, I guess I must have searched for people near me on LJ, and added you, although it would be strange of me if it was entirely out of the blue, and normally I at least say-so when I add a stranger! I was probably confused at the time!

p.s.
are you currently in Afghanistan? Military? Contractor? Be careful!

I'm glad it's all fixed now. I know I feel awful whenever my computer breaks; it's my main contact with my friends and the world at large. *hugs from afar*

When you shut the computer down put the battery back in and it will charge itself back up.

Aha, thanks for that! I have created a guest account for my roommates, with rights to use the computer, but no rights to install anything or edit the Operating System, etc... is that ok?
