British Election 2010 May 06

Vince Cable, Chris Huhne, Dr Evan Harris, and Nick Clegg are the four best politicians in the UK, and they are all Lib Dems. The Lib Dems were revealed to be the most well-behaved and responsible party in the Expenses scandal, e.g., not a single London Lib Dem MP claimed 2nd home allowance. They still have what the other two parties lack: clear policies, well-behaved and intelligent politicians.

In all honesty? Only 4-5 dodgy libdems. 70 odd dodgy labour, and 70 odd Tory's. The maths is simple enough.

And if the Lib Dems paid back on a donation they'd be out of business. And The Tory's and New Labour would...

Run riot wrecking the place as per the norm.

That's just one example — prportionally (remember there're a lot less LibDem MPs), there seem to be roughly the same percentage of dodgy MPs in all of the parties. Nick Clegg claiming in the Debate on Thursday that his party are completely faultless in the Expenses Scanal was misleading to say the least.

The maths is simple, but people aren't doing it. Same with the complete fantasy of the numbers in those tables they so proudly stuck in their manifesto.

Voting Lib Dem is the only vote I feel I could feasibly take.

Not true. The conservatives have lots of clear policies. It's just that I disagree with most of them.

Also it must be said that the other parties do have intelligent and well behaved politicians, but they tend to stay in the background most of the time. Also a lot of well behaved intelligent MPs are getting out of the politics this time round having had enough of being cast as arseholes along with the real arseholes (by anouther bunch of arseholes).

The reality is it's never black and white of course, when the hype settles I will be voting for the party I disagree with least.

I agree. New Labour cannot be voted for, and The Tory's will just try and dump The National Debt ( accrued by the rich obviously ) on the poor ONLY.

Unless you have an Independent I'd say steer Lib Dem. I like The Greenies, but this one is too damn important and they are too damn small.

Ideally I'd like to see The Green Party taken in by The Lib Dems, so Green issues get proper re-enforcements. No idea if Caroline Lucas would agree though.

National Debt ( accrued by the rich obviously )

Money coming in per year.

Money going out.

Seems pretty clear where the majority of the structural deficit is coming from.

Cleggies mistakes have been minor.

As for our tax revenue? We need more obviously, but with the poor so skint that...

The only people left to tax are the rich IYSWIM. And yes it was the rich and big business that botched expenditure, wasted 28 billion per year on crap, and... Blair and his chums. Obviously.

498 billion in, 672 billion out. More tax in, less waste in what goes out. And that's before you get money together for 'repayment'.

Whoever has been running this ship is clueless. The mistakes in the above are not minor. They are massive. Off the scale in some cases. Borrow forever? Yes, obviously...

So yeah, Lib Dems are the better batch for the big parties.

Or we could actually start producing and manufacturing again — public sector spending (although some of it is essential and should not be cut) takes money out of the economy. Services sectors (supermarkets, banks, domestic media etc.) are also consumers of economic resources: manufacturing, both physical and intellectual (i.e. scienctific advances, engineering, medicine), that we can sell to the rest of the world (as well as not importing so much we can't really afford ourselves) is the only way our economy's going to go back to positive growth. Quite frankly, we need to get back to work.

And none of the major parties are saying that... the Tories come closest, but have backed off since as soon as they said it, they dropped 5% the polls. It's weird that Labour, who claim to represent the working classes aren't focussing on working our way out of this mess, but then the Unions behind them are pretty much all second-level services industries now.

The LibDems want to pay for things through higher taxation (again the claim that they aren't raising taxes doesn't actually hold up if you look at the figure), but without without the increased growth at the bottom, that's unsupportable.

I agree on the manufacturing. I'm an engineer. I shit a brick at the thought of no-one building anymore. Bloody stupid that.

With us closer to parity with Europe on our currency it means our products are cheaper abroad now. Perfect time.

And, sadly, New Labour are saying manufacturing needs to come back. Did so on the politics show. Gordon is focussing on North Britain to transfer over the old manufacturing to new stuff. But yes that is happening.

You'd think they'd be making more noise about that.

To New Labour, I say this: "What the hell have you been doing for the last thirteen years?"

Oh, yeah, selling off massive amounts of UK industry, awarding fat contracts to companies overseas, pushing students into unaffordable degrees (except if you live in Scotland, funny that) at the expense of sciences and techology departments...

Bunch of rich idiots lining their pockets. The papertrail says it all. All you have to do is survive for 8 odd years and you are so rich you're set for life.

And Blair said lying was fine to make it easier to do this. It's clearly treason.

Scruff, thanks for being the devil's advocate in this, I hate one sided discussions (even though i'll probably vote Lib dem!) :o)

The LibDems aren't as perfect as they make themselves out to be (don't get me started on the Cult of St Vince)... people should of course vote where they think it's right to, but should do so after actually looking at what's being said, checking the facts and figures etc.

Last time the country was swayed over by a good performer without looking at what he actually stood for (i.e. himself and his rich, bloated friends) we ended up with a decade of Tony B. Liar. Now I don't think Nick Clegg's even remotely as vile or self-serving as him, but judging someone's ability to run a country on opportunistic rhetoric is just asking for trouble.

With the 'OAP having to sell' bit that would actually be a Jack Straw compensation stitch-up.

The Lib Dems could not have known last I heard, and paying that back would have put them out of business.

Which would be handy if you want The Left wrecked. Labour gone, Lib Dems bankrupt...

The weird theology of the 'hidden Imam' is nonsensical myth-making; please take another look at reality and come to more sensible conclusions.
