Re: adam & eve (your understanding)
|
1) The character of Adam and Eve If god created eve from the rib of adam, then adam and eve had the same genetic makeup. Not only were they brother and sister, but they were twins too. That makes it even worse!
Also, if they were "meant" to be perfect, why were they given a personality that means they were gullible enough to be deceived by an animal talking nonsense? If God created their personalities, God wanted them to fall for the snake, why would God want that?
The story is only mythical, a creation story, to try and interpret it literally makes a mockery of it and reveals it's illogical assumptions and fairytale mechanics.
2) Nakedness Why were they ashamed of being naked, and how did they know what clothes were? God must have showed them what clothes were *and* also programmed in to their instincts the instinct that being naked was shameworthy. Why would God do that, if there is nothing wrong with nakedness? If there is something wrong with nakedness, why did God create them naked, when animals at least have a covering of fur?!
This God appears to be somehwat confusing! Creating the emotions of shame, gullobility and disloyalty into it's "perfect" creations! Why did God create people with such a poor set of traits?
The answer is: If God is perfect, the people portrayed in the story of Adam and Eve were not created by God.

Re: adam & eve (your understanding)

Hi, I'm not that knowledgeable of the texts of the Bible or about the stories of Adam and Eve. But, to my understanding, I think God created Adam and Eve similar to other animals: innocent and pure (also gullible). It was the serpent who corrupted their minds and persuaded them to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge. It was after eating the fruit of knowledge that Adam and Eve were embarrassed of their nakedness, it was after they had "knowledge" and became civilized.
This God appears to be somehwat confusing! Creating the emotions of shame, gullobility and disloyalty into it's "perfect" creations! Why did God create people with such a poor set of traits?
To my understanding, God is not confused, He created Adam and Eve just as he did with any other creature on Earth: innocent and pure which makes them gulloble. God did not create emotions of shame and disloyalty. Shame came after Adam and Eve ate the fruit, disloyalty came from the innocence in being persuaded by the serpent. I think that God did create something "perfect," but what He created was corrupted by other "imperfect" things.

The continents are the shapes they are due to large scale forces - I don't know where you're from, but here we study it in geography at school. It's simple, and doesn't require a god to make it work.
Your argument is that because of the scale and laws of nature, that God exists? If there was a God, why would it use such complex methods and such a huge universe, just to create a small amount of life on a small planet? You'd think God would be a little less messy and somewhat more efficient!
Right, granted you say you can "see" gods miracles in people, why is it that such sight is not granted to me, but is granted to you?
I think it has more to do with psychology, than reason!

Re: adam & eve (your understanding)

first i would like to say that christians see miracles because we look for them. healing of the deaf fo instance: i was born partially deaf, for five years i could barely hear anything and did not even know that rain made noise, it was a miracle that modern hearing aids were invented and now i can hear just as if i were born perfectly normal. there are also procedures that allow blind people to see. granted their vision is not 20/20 but those who have undergone this surgery are no longer blind. about atheism, i think it improbable that in all the mass chaos of the big bang and other atheist and evolutionist theories that somehow all the atmospheric gases just happened to form a perfect mixture so precise that if the mixtures were disporportionate by merely 1 percent, we would all die. some evolutionists say that all animals are connected by similar traits which make them look alike or liken them to each other in some other way and offer this as proof for a common ancestor, but would you not consider this proof of a common creator, instead? the complexities and beauty of nature are so because of one reason: God, our creator, made all these things so that he could make us. he loves us and is a jealous god. this does not mean that he is envious but he is jealous in the literal sense of the word, that is he had something (us) that he loved and he did not want to loose us. by making the universe and everything that is in it, he gives both himself and us something pretty to look at, and also shows us that he is a God capable of doing things of great power far beyond the expanse of our imaginative comprehension and he still loves us even though we are so small compared to the rest of his creations. that is exactly why he sent his son to die for us. when he creayed Adam, he saw that he was lonely, and he did not want him to be lonely, so he created eve. God put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the garden because he wanted us to have a choice, free will. when eve heard the serpent speaking, she being new, it did not occur to her that a serpent was not supposed to talk. it was actually Adam that sinned because he knew for a fact that he shouldn't eat the fruit, but eve was decieved. because God is holy, untainted, apart from sin, he was separated from Adam and Eve because they sinned. God did not want to be separated for us, but the only way was to offer a perfect sacrafice, we are not sure why bloodshed was required for forgiveness of sin, but i believe that it was because bloodshed was needed to cover the shame and nakedness of Adam and Eve (he covered them with animal skin), but god saw no one on earth who was perfect, so he sent his only son, Jesus to earth. because Jesus was in perfect communion in God, he was perfect and he gave his life to save us. his blood was sacraficed to cover all sins past, present, and future. now all you have to do to be perfect and therefore be in communion with god is accept Jesus' sacrafice and allow him to be lord of your life so that he can guide you through the times when you are temted by sin. and that is the whole story. after all, isn't it better to look at yourself as someone who is loved by the god who created the universe by merely speaking instead as just a thing that just happened to be mutated by something of nature?
