Ziggy!
I want to introduce everyone to Ziggy. Ziggy is a MS Access/VBA application that I write and improve, which manages my websites, academic notes on books, lists and manages book quotations and reviews, and writes the Bibliography portion of my HTML file. It is highly searchable, meaning it takes second for me to search for where I've used a particular quote, and seconds to (for example) list all the books I've quoted from on a particular page.

It can list all the "unused" notes I've made on books, so, I can see where I've made notes on something or quoted from the book, but I haven't implemented the quote in any text of my own yet. It has a "random quote" function that shows me a random unused quote from a book... so when I'm not inspired, I click "random quote" and have a look to see if it's anything I feel like writing about.

It also manages Notes... organised into topics, so, I have a series of notes pages on politics. It means I don't have to remember where I've left any .txt files around my computer when I'm trying to remember where I left an essay plan!

Oh, it writes http://www22.brinkster.com/vexen/site_index.html whenever I press on the "Sites... Make Index" button. And then opens it for me to preview.

Last few days I've programmed it to understand some FTP, so after doing an update I can tell it to open the local folder and remote FTP folder for the site I just tweeked. Handy.

When I'm inserting links into comments, I can tap "Sites... Search mine" and type in a quick keyword like "zombies" and it will list all my relevant pages, I can click on one and it places a "biblio" link into the clipboard ready for me to insert into the discussion. Example: "The Biology and Neurology of Zombies" by Vexen Crabtree (2006)

Ziggy will, over time, actually become self-aware. It will become knowledgeable enough to carry on writing my webpages, even once I'm dead. I just need to carry on and program it with everything I know, and press "Go". Ergo, world domination. Via HTML.

Book Catalogue of all my books at LibraryThing
Vexen's Library Thing Catalogue: All the books I own!. I've added 140 or so to start off with, I've another bookshelf to add later (legal books & reference books), as well as my "unread" pile.

www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=Vexen: Vexen Crabtree profile on LibraryThing

LibraryThing is addictive to use! It's very easy to add books and lists other peoples' libraries who are similar to yours, gives you social information and tagging on books, and other stuff, I'd love to see a load of my friends' book collections and this is a good place to do it! Easy to add reviews of books, too, something that I might do more now!

Varieties of Religious Experience
Reading William James' lecture notes from 1900/1901, compiled into the
famous book "Varieties of Religious Experience", I have come across
descriptions of New Age /already/ describing it as a wave sweeping
across the modern world, and ALSO bemourning the ease at which it has
become commercialized!

I didn't credit the new age with any real noticeability until the
1960s.

William James says that although they use Christian (white light)
terminology, they have clearly departed from the beliefs of normal
Christians, and mentions Hindu influence amonst other influences on
the movements.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is surprised that popular New Age
type things are actually 100 years old already.

Obviously Blavatsky and others have a little to answer for, but, I
hadn't imagined that the "new age" as a whole was identifiable that
early.

Dev randomness
Went to Kentish Town library to renew some books (I forgot on Saturday! *slaps self*), and on the way out decided to go to The Dev and have a pint of coke. Looking at the time I realized that Felis was about to finish work, so I hailed her and we sat for a while... then another friend turned up (American Claudia from VC meets, a lovely woman with strange sleeping habits!), and then Scott turned up too (or, as Ia'kat used to call him four years ago, "Joseph with straws through his ears" - we never recalled why Ia'Kat came up with that name (except for the straws bit)).

So after some socializing I came home, wishing that I'd shaved or at least made myself a bit presentable! (I had my cap on the whole day due to not knowing what to do with short hair!)

3.2 miles...
In the 30 minutes between 02:02 and 02:32 I jogged 3.2 miles... which works out as 9 minutes 23seconds per mile over three miles. My aim is, tomorrow, to do 2 miles in 16 minutes.

I didn't go to Sluts meet today, I slept in late and decided to instead cook a large quantity of rice, chicken, onion, herbs and oysters, drink coffee and play Warcraft 3. I'm completely nocturnal at the moment.

I'm reading a book on Lenin, Stalin, Hitler and other dictatorships between 1918-1945. The blurb on the back states that in the early 1920s most of Europe's 28 states could be described as parliamentary democracies, but by 1941 only 5 remained intact. By 1938 16 of them had succombed to dictatorships!
Oh... a random page on Satanism & Dictatorships: http://www.dpjs.co.uk/democracy.html
Fascinating period of history... it was a world of faulty idealism! One which the USA government hasn't managed to emerge from yet!

Another book I'm reading is Josephus' 'The Jewish War', first century history... another generally interesting period of history. Josephus made many sensible choices in his life, and the way people tend to rise and follow any old leader seems to be just as prevalent 2000 years ago as it is now... mindless sheep, that's what people are!

"In the depths of my heart, I can't help
being convinced that my fellow men, with
a few exceptions, are worthless."
- Sigmund Freud

I love feeling fit, strong and intelligent! I just wish I was as fit as my role models (say, a rather robust demon from hell...), or as useful/productive/relentless as Nietzsche or any of the greats of history. Endlessly qualified people! I want to be like them!

Jogging
I went to Catford, then went to Lewisham. Dropped off book, browsed sociology books but didn't find anything interesting.

Went to boots, bought camera film, razor blades (I blunted two or three yesterday) and suncream!

Jogged back from Lewisham to Lee train station, 1.4 miles in between 11 and 14 mins (I can't remember it was 13:03 or 13:06 I got there!).

So, between 7min48sec and 10min0sec per mile and I was carrying 7kg of stuff.

This is better than yesterday's 2mile run... obviously, the slower 2nd mile slowed down the average overall. OK, I need to scrap the "10 min mile" aim as clearly I'm already doing that. I'm applying for a job where the initial tests involve a mile jog that I have to do in 12 mines. No problem.

Other test is holding 14kg of stuff with outstretched arms, for 4 minues. I have an old military ammo box that is quite heavy, I'm going to weigh it then weigh up individual items and fill it until I've measured the total weighs 14kg. Where's Orinoco with his weights when you need him?
