Had a great day yesterday, bimbling around Camden, and met Orin for many hours. We waffled muchly. Didn't spend any money, didn't go shopping! Went to B Movie; had a good time. The reasonable volume of the music meant it was easy to socialize. Met Kath, who I haven't talked to for ages (years?), which was nice. Am at work from 6pm tonight, until 4pm Monday, and back on a different duty on Tuesday, finishing Wed. morning (but might be able to gett off it, a friend owes a favour!). Then, working next weekend. Getting bored of this unpredictability. Tags: camden, clubbing, london

Stayed in on Friday night with orinotta. Saturday 10am, went to London. On the way, in a deserted underground station (there was literally no-one else there, didn't even see any staff), I bumped into the large lumbering figure of Ajas, a friend from where I'm studying Cisco. Was strangely unnerving to see across the concourse a solitary person, and to know that person. We put off my visit to shuripentu because she was arguing with her petmale. I went to Camden and hung around for a while before meeting orinotta, pennypenny and hybryd andwe had a nice time just hanging out and doing some light shopping. Went to Slimelight... and had an amazing wonderful time. Lots of cuddles with the friends' I was with, and met Sheridan and a few other random people. Danced lots. I seem to have gotten a new fast-footwork thing, but hey I was having fun even if I looked like I was doing a 50mph moonwalk! After Slimelight I went to a military showcase at Chelsea Barracks. My aim was to learn more about the military, pick up some more terminology and get to know some people... was a little more successful than I had bargained for! I talked to various Army & TA guys. I then bumped into three Royal Artillery men & women that I met a few monthes ago, and they recognized me, and was genuinely nice to talk to them! Last time I met I had told them I was joining Royal Signals (computers & communications), this time I told them the truth :-) I also randomly bumped into the Warrant Officer who interviewed me once or twice in Blackheath ACIO, and a few of the others who worked there. We talked intelligently and we get on well. He excitedly ran off and brought someone to me who works in the same line of work as I'm going in to (I hadn't actually met anyone who done the job I'm applying for before last week, it's a small group!). I talked to him, I also talked to a person from a specialist computer group; which was the role I was initially looking at a few months ago. (Royal Signals 14th Regiment, the Electronic Warfare group). I asked the linguist about Arabic, and said it wouldn't hurt if I started Arabic now (I had concerns I could teach myself bad habits if doing it alone!). I think the WO was happy I'd randomly turned up. I talked to the crew and various support staff for the Challenger 2 tanks, and got some itching questions I had about it's air-tight ability to sit out gas & biological attacks. Talked to crews of the decontamination units, and talked to numerous engineers. I quizzed all of them about their roles. I was there 10am to 2pm, and was told by one of the army guys that I had to be prepared for long nights and no sleep during training. Like duh. If there's one thing I can do, it's stay up all night, and continue the next day without (apparently...) people even guessing I've done so. After that I went to see Shuri and Eemeli, was wonderful to see them both. Walked around Camden with the ultimately-cuddly Shuri for a few hours, I got to plan a birthday present for her (although she does have a wishlist that I'll bookmark presently). I returned home Sunday evening and finally crashed around 10pm, a precise 36 hours later, having had a nicely packed weekend. Thursday was good, had a nice relaxing wander around Camden, went to Kentish Town Library (renewed a book and got another one). Met a friend late afternoon and I acted as a sounding board for her thoughts on her current longterm relationship. (Which is something I was proud to do & was why I met her...). Went to the Sluts meet, there were tons of people there! Had a good time. Amusingly (and this is typical of the London goth sluts insanity) when Clive arrived, there was spontaneous cheering, which then turned into clapping and congratulations. Clive, chuffed at his welcoming, said, "My job here is done..." and made as if to leave again :p Or someone said that that's what Clive should do, I forget. Orinoco turned up relatively early (for an otter) and was good for people to meet him (as I name-drop him quite frequently, yet many have not actually met him). I had used some safety pins to fix my skinnyfit shirt to my fake leather jeans, so that I wouldn't have to keep tucking it in all day... but one of the safety pins disappeared. Inside my trousers. After some scary moments, I realized it had made it's way down to my knee (I'll leave the exact details of those 'scary moments' to your imagination...)... and it then disappeared forever. I missed Snow_Leapord, who left the meet before I arrived. Yikes, this is a really boring update. I'm sorry! You should come to the Sluts meets, instead of merely reading about them, then, shouldn't you! Tags: camden, clive, kentish town, orinoco, sluts Current Mood: lonely

"The Jewish War" by Josephus (first century), translation by G. A. Williamson. Penguin Classics. "Buddhism and the mythology of evil" by Trevor Ling. Oneworld publications. "The Bahai Faith" by Joseph Shepperd. The Oxford Who's Who in the Classical World. A second hand bookshop in Camden had a 25% off closing down sale. All of the above for £15. 1 and 3 are both references, I don't plan on reading Josephus' one from beginning to end, but own it in order to check sources and quotes. I'll need Jewish Antiquites too, but it wasn't there. 2 is, basically, going to be used as compendium of references to evil, Mara, etc, in various Buddhist and Christian texts. I've read most of 4 already. Bahai is a very bad religion in terms of human welfare, having many of the same teachings on marriage, sex, etc, that Abrahamic religions have, and is Islamic in nature, but more liberal. Bahai appeals to some Muslims, so represents a religion that may be capable of making Islamic countries more liberal and less monstrous. Am attending another Interview today... wish me luck again! Yesterday's went excellently, it was very promising and natural and good interview. So I have another one with a more technical minded person today, who will quiz me on technical stuff including a HTML test, I don't really know what this test will entail but if I, Vexen, who talks and thinks in HTML [1], can't pass it, then no-one can! [1] Although probably non-standards compliant HTML, and biased towards IE... hopefully the company/techie is practically orientated rather than theory orientated because I'd be weaker at the latter. After interview yesterday I hung around Camden reading a collection of essays by Max Weber, who is very rapidly becoming someone I'm falling for. Then attended a Sluts meet, which was excellent because I love the company, and we met in a pub that sold Thai food, and got to see my adorable sister felishumanus. Ah... Thai food... or something... after finally getting to bed last night at beyond midnight, I was woken a few hours later with stomach pains that my body told me were food poisoning or a lower stomach bug. It appears to have gone for now, so maybe it was the former. No other symptoms than waking up in pain and a tiny bit of sweating. Today, am going to Interview then will sit around Camden reading a book all day (if anyone is around, text me on 07812 048684 and come keep me company from 1pm onwards!) until about 7/8pm where I will meet some friends in Starbucks. I will definately need the coffee because I only slept five hours last night, and four (restless) hours this nite! Um... I need to write an updated CV and print it out for the 2nd Interview. I don't have a printer so I'm going to take a floppy with files on (and upload a version in case the floppy breaks), and if I happen to pass an Internet cafe or somesuchplace, then will pop in and print out file for whatever they charge. Was in London on Wednesday and sat around Camden reading a book, a copy of Eliphas Levi's "History of Transcendental Magic", which I am enthusiastically reading through. I disagree with many of the basic premises' of Levi's views but I knew this already, what I didn't know was just how Quaballah-centric this text was. Which is illuminating in terms of understanding the history of various things, but bad in terms of expanding any useful knowledge I have. I sat in my fave cafe and there was a friendly member of staff there I hadn't seen before. I met up with my wonderful sister who cooked for me. I poked her computer a bit and made some bits and bobs work, but couldn't fix Word. (Reinstalling doesn't work even). We went for a walk... reminiscing over that childhood we never had :-) Then met up with orinotta in the Dev. He's great, but I was secretly checking up that he's doing well despite a loss. As one of my longest term friends I also needed to talk to him about some emotion related relationship stuff to do with someone who I care for a lot (which has worked out, but just wanted to talk to someone!). So a big thanks to Orin for putting up with my wibbles! And Orin... YOU KNOW WHAT SHELLY AND I WANT YOU TO DO! Do it, dude! And thanks for putting me up on Wed night! A big thanks and hug to shuripentu and Eemeli for keeping me company and snuggles during Thursday, and for great open minded conversation :-) Made it to the goth social in central London, which was great, despite feeling a bit tired and out of my depth in the conversation. Good Saturday :-) Watched Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Which was amazing. You know... I haven't cried so much since Moulin Rouge. More than once I note only shed tears, but sobbed like a girl :-). I enjoyed the warm company of Marconi and Felis who I met beforehand. They rock :-) I randomly met pennypenny which is nice as always, and wondered with her and her friend. We went into a obscure video store, and I got Soylent Green for £5!! It was sat there waiting for me! It knew I'd been quoting it around here! It stalks my imagination. I asked: They didn't have the German dubbed version. Ah well! I bought "Church of Acid" by Velvet Acid Christ from Resurrection Records, which is very good (so far). Very ambient, atmospheric, smooth electronic industrial, as good as Twisted Thought Generator by the same band. I also bought "Entities" by Project Pitchfork because I like " souls" that is on the album, I don't know how good the album is. And I finally got " Electronomicon" by | | |
