Hi, this is an old question that i've stumbled across but i'll reply anyway. There is some weight to the argument that God's existence needs to be obscure to preserve our freewill but the idea that you can just invent things to 'get God off the hook' when Science finds inconvinent facts is bogus and intellectually ridiculous. What is far more persuasive is that Genesis is a sacred book that tries to make sense of the world for ancient people. It contains truth but is not lieterally true. We learn that humans are not a cosmic accident and that God wants a relationship with humans - you loose so much to read it literally. Like thinking Moby Dick is a book about whaleing.
