Fundamentalists attitude towards their religious text

"Fundamentalism" by Vexen Crabtree

  • 1
I agree that the more 'fundamentalist' or conservative types do NOT take the scriptures as seriously (realistically), and often infuse their own wishful thinking upon the interpretations.

Good info! :)

::nudge:: I'm surprised you didn't say anything to this. ;)

This is Vexen tech support:

Thank you for your message. We wish to inform you that the bug you highlighted has now been fixed. The universe is now back as normal.

Phew, that was close! Thanks!

Cool; I've done my good deed for the day. ;)

Now time for the bad one. ::drinks three cans of Pepsi::

(You're welcome!)

Wa... uh... three???? Eeek, I er.... oh dear... ew! Poor you! Well, they're nice, but, ick, you're drinking acid! I know you said "bad" deed, but you didn't say it was shocking!

My pipes are impermeable to acid. ;)

Nah, I'm kidding. Pepsi IS a bad habit, but I try not to drink that much! (I thought you liked caffeine anyway?) There's acid in coffee, too, ya know. Some acids are just worse than others. Ascorbic and oxalic acid are the worst ones for me; citric acid's not quite as bad. But yeah, phosphoric acid is probably not good for the bones... or the kidneys. I'll break this habit soon enough--don't you worry! :) Coke has been found to be much worse than Pepsi, but I hate Coke.

Shocking? Shocking?! Shocking would be squirting brake fluid onto the neighbor's car; it f*cks up the paint big time!

Coke is worse than pepsi? I always pick coke, perhaps I should switch to pepsi! (Taste-wise they're all so similar I don't care which I drink).

I've seen reports that Coke is more acidic than Pepsi. You really can't tell the difference in taste? Ewww, I can always tell between Coke and Pepsi. Yecchh. :)

Um... but don't worry. I've been weaning myself off Pepsi for a month now. I promised myself that by Halloween it would no longer be a *habit.* I'm getting there. :) Sheesh, it's about the only real vice/addiction I have (if you don't count LJ)! ;)

I'll have you know it's been three days since Halloween and I haven't had ONE Pepsi in a week! :D (I usually DO what I say I'm gonna do!)

Funny quote

There must be more to life than having everything.

I'm new here, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.

Relaunched this page (www.humanreligions.info/fundamentalism.html) after merging with my "Why is Monotheism Intolerant" page. Added more methodical sections on the causes of fundamentalism, and some solutions to it.

First time reader

Your history and analysis of religious fundamentalism was excellent. Very well researched, informative and quite true to reality from my perspective. Have you ever written anything similar on the topics of political fundamentalism or economic fundamentalism? For example on free market capitalist fanatics vs communist-socialist fanatics or extreme left wing loons/big government social justice utopians vs extreme right wing crackpots/no government anarchists, and the various shades of gray moderates in between.

What about the links between religious extremism, political extremism and (possibly partly genetic) personality traits like psychopathy and sociopathy. Extreme religiosity and extreme political beliefs do seem to be strongly influenced by a combination of both our genetic makeup and our upbringing/personal experiences.
