The Goodguy Badge

The Goodguy Badge... the little things people do and think, in order to feel good about themselves and to be seen as good by others

I love this topic.

Environmentalists who latch onto big causes - not because they care about the rainforests, or global warming - but because talking about important things makes them feel important. It's a cover for their own insecurities.

There is also the manipulative niceguy. These are horrible, they'll do anything for you, bend over backwards, claiming they don't want anything in return - this is a lie. They want something, usually it'll come up a few months or even years later:

"But back in 2003 I helped you!"

It's as if they feel by being nice they have a hold over you. The term passive aggressive pretty much sums these people up. They never want to offend, they never upset - but all of it is just a sneaky way to manipulate those around them.

The problem I've found is there's another type of nice guy. Usually selfcentred, but is nice because he's scared - too scared to be who he wants to be. Too scared to stand up to people. He's been bullied and beaten so many times he's just hidden himself away from the world.

When I'm good it's always for selfish reasons. I donate blood because I feel better afterwards. I'm friendly to people around me, because I like to be surrounded by happy people.

Good article.
