A Whinge About My Accomodation

My accomodation is rubbish. The showers hardly work... the water is either freezing cold or boiling hot... none of the temperature dials do anything but slightly change the water pressure from "measly" to "dribbly". We have to basically hug the far wall of the shower chambers & control dial, so that the water drools on us. It's exactly the opposite of what you want after the hard, physical work we do all day!

And... there is no internet connection, no wireless, and no chance to get any. That's why I roam London finding starbucks to sit in, to check emails and things!

The laundry is rubbish, the machines continually break down, they don't drain, they appear to wash clothes in cold water so the powder doesn't dissolve properly, they cost £2 to do a rubbish wash, and the dryers hardly work either. Last night I put my clothes on three drying cycles, and they still came out damp. My room is full of hanging clothes, over every surface. Very annoying. They haven't dried quick enough, after sitting in the dryers for over 2 hours, still wet, they're all going to smell before they dry so I'll probably have to do them again! I can't find any laundrettes nearby either. I've looked.

Also, there are vermin that scutter around the rooms at night. One ran over my foot last week.

That's it. Whinge over. I do actually feel better.

I don't know if you saw, but the crap accomodation provided to soldiers did the rounds in the news a while back.. so it's on their list of things to do, for what that's worth, heh. It should cost a relative pittance to fix, as well, so it's pretty pathetic.

Such news articles are what I found when I typed in the name of my temporary barracks into Google. I'm going to screen this thread, as I don't specifically mention my work on public posts.

Ha :p I frequently struggle with that word!

Can't you, like, complain to the Army Human Rights Department or something?

Ha, I wish.

However, our Brigadier (the highest ranking official who would stand up for us!) has taken our complaints to high places... and we got a report back that the hot water is "unfixable", which sounds like a lack-of-willpower to me, given that London is a national capital of one of a rich Western country! It is quite ridiculous that we are doing the Armies most public, proud and famous job in London, whilst living in the most uncared for, infamous and shameful accomodation!

Urgh, that sounds horrible. :/

We have a decent shower and washing machine? No dryer, though, so you'd have to hang your laundry or locate a local laundrette. I'm not sure if there are any; I'd never looked. Also, the bed and sofas kind of suck. But we've got wireless at home now. Can you get away from camp overnight? :)

Yeah can do as long as I have no commitments. And things are unpredictable at the moment, timetable-wise. Tues night is the next I have free, and as I don't know what I'm doing on Wed yet, it makes planning anything hard!

Thanks for the offer sweet cub, maybe some day! I promise to be quiet and not to disturb you guys!
